Saugus, located east and north of Valencia and west of
Canyon Country could be said to be a centrally located community of Santa
Clarita. Saugus has access to both Interstate 5 and the Antelope
Valley freeway 14. The community extends north along Bouquet Canyon
Road which eventually ends up in the Antelope Valley near Quartz Hill.
The drive, particularly in the spring is well worth the trip. Be
sure to stop at Big Oaks for a burger.
Saugus is home to the
Saugus Swapmeet, Santa Clarita's open air market. This is one of
the largest and oldest open air market in Southern California and has been
operational for over thirty years. The Speedway, originally really
was a speedway with a 1/3 mile asphalt Tract.......many a night was spent
there watching cars race around under the floodlights, until it was no
more. However, it is still a venue for special events AND the
swapmeet still goes on attracting thousands every Sunday.
Saugus is also the home of the oldest operating restaurant
in Los Angeles County. The Saugus Cafe is a landmark on San
Fernando Road and has many old pictures of Santa Clarita on the walls.
Well worth the visit, it has been open since 1887 and has been and still
is, open 24 hours a day. The
metrolink station is located
next to the Saugus Speedway and
Santa Clarita Transit links the station with buses.

to hike into the Bouquet Canyon area. Click

and Christmas trees next time.
Homes in Saugus vary in age.
Some date back to the 1960's. New homes are currently being built in
the area. Pricing in the community allows for larger homes on larger
lots than Valencia and Stevenson Ranch and makes it popular for young
families. Custom homes have also been built in the area above
Central Park and up Bouquet Canyon itself.
